And the winner is . . .

I am deeply touched by all the wonderful moon tanka (as well as by Rick Daddario’s fabulous haiga) that I received for my birthday.  So many (24!) poems from so many talented and diverse writers.  I wish I could give all the poets who participated in my birthday post a small token of my appreciation, and I hope that you too have enjoyed reading their words as much as I have.  It was a pleasure to receive them, and read them as they filtered in, each one a present that extended my birthday celebration by almost three weeks.

In the end I found myself resorting to my birthday hat again–with my husband drawing a poet’s name from it at one minute past midnight–rather than having to pick and choose between favorites . . .

So, congratulations, Kirsten Cliff!  I’ll be sending you a copy of Ueda’s Modern Japanese Tanka shortly . . . .

And thank you to all for coming to my party!

About Margaret Dornaus

I’m a writer and a teacher, as well as a haiku-doodler. I live in a beautiful woodland setting, surrounded by native oak forests, that inspires me to record haiku snapshots of luna moths and our resident roadrunner, and even an occasional black bear as it hightails it across the top of my road, my mongrel dog barking at its heels as I watch with wonder. My work as a travel writer has appeared in publications from The Dallas Morning News to the Robb Report. You can find examples of my travel writing–as well as excerpts from a travel memoir I’m working on–at my other WordPress site, Travelin’ On. What more than that do you need to know? Only that I started this blog with an eye toward collaboration. Got a haiku? Send it my way. . . . I’m all about new visions & voices. Best, Margaret

  2. Oh. My. Gosh. I am sitting here speechless. This is so very, very cool! Thank you (and your husband) for bringing about this beautiful gift my way. 🙂 I’m extremely grateful to be part of your on-line haiku and tanka family. It gives me great pleasure to share my poetry with you and all the other wonderful poets out in cyberspace. This is the perfect end to a great day, which included an early birthday lunch with my hubby and parents, and a spot of birthday shopping with Mum! Happy Birthday to you, Margaret! May you always enjoy your journey in poetry. 🙂

I suppose I’m knocking on closed doors for a birthday party just over. But I’ll stand by the door until you hear my imitations of mythic birds singing birthday songs–a shower of notes that transform into golden fruits at your feet! Gifts of more poetic seeds for none but ‘mi dulce hermana’!

Happy Birthday, again, the earliest greeting for the next at Day one!
