Buffalo gals and birthday moons . . .

birthday waltz
still dancing by the light
of the moon

I had a bunch of moon ku to post for my birthday, which just happens to coincide with the 42nd anniversary of Neil Armstrong’s walk on the moon . . . you know, the one where he took a “small step” and a “giant leap.” But I decided, in the interest of all concerned, that maybe it was better just to post one . . .

I did, however, want to take this time to thank all my friends, both old and new, for stopping by from time to time to check in on me as I take baby steps in my haiku pursuit.  I appreciate you one and all for your support . . . for catching me when I fall . . . and for joining me on this journey.

About Margaret Dornaus

I’m a writer and a teacher, as well as a haiku-doodler. I live in a beautiful woodland setting, surrounded by native oak forests, that inspires me to record haiku snapshots of luna moths and our resident roadrunner, and even an occasional black bear as it hightails it across the top of my road, my mongrel dog barking at its heels as I watch with wonder. My work as a travel writer has appeared in publications from The Dallas Morning News to the Robb Report. You can find examples of my travel writing–as well as excerpts from a travel memoir I’m working on–at my other WordPress site, Travelin’ On. What more than that do you need to know? Only that I started this blog with an eye toward collaboration. Got a haiku? Send it my way. . . . I’m all about new visions & voices. Best, Margaret

Oh my, has it really been 42 years since the moonwalk? And I haven’t thought of the song “Buffalo Gals” in years. Thanks for a lovely haiku and memories, and hope your birthday is the best ever!

    • Yes, 42! Well, that’s less than 50, anyway, so not officially “vintage”! And they sing “Buffalo Gal” in Frank Capra’s It’s a Wondeful Life, which appears every Christmas on TBS if you’re hankering for it . . . Thanks, Cara, as always, for the kind remarks! I’ll be drawing from my hat after midnight!

  2. for her birthday a slice of this moon

Happy to be part of your journey, Margaret. All the best for creating in the year ahead.
